Today at Gearbox we received our MI6 Awards that Borderlands was awarded with earlier this year. Borderlands won a total of 6 awards including: Gold for Best Video, Silver for Funniest TV Theatrical Ad or Video Asset, Outstanding Promotional Trailer, Overall Marketing Campaign, and Bronze for Best Online Ad Unit, and Best Online Take-Over/Road-Block. A big congratulations goes out to Brian Thomas, Mikey Neumann, Mike Davis, Richard Jessup, James Houchen, Josh Rearick, Hector Fajardo, Raison Varner, Mark Petty, David Eddings, and Steve Gibson for all the awesome work they have done.

The June/July issue of Game Developer magazine recognizes Gearbox as one of the top 30 developers of 2009!  We're thrilled to be included in this list of companies recognized for moving the industry forward.  You can pick up the issue from a newsstand near you, or online, to read the Gearbox blurb and see who else they included!

That's not the only Gearbox connection in this issue!  Our very own Adam May, a lead character artist, contributed a review of Pixologic's Zbrush 3.5 R3 - a great read for those of you interested in 3-D modeling with this piece of software.

Anthony Burch, the creator of Hey Ash Whatcha Playin (you can watch them all here using their filters) and writer at Destructoid, has joined the Gearbox team!  You can read his farewell post at Destructoid, which contains his proposal to his girlfriend (that little "YES!" strawberry? Her answer).  A heartwarming tale!  We're big fans of Anthony and are extremely excited to welcome him to the Gearbox team!

Going to SXSW?  You won't want to miss this presentation by our very own Jimmy Sieben and Matthew Armstrong about weapons in Borderlands!  Learn more about the tech behind Borderlands 87 bazillion guns as they walk through the creation of a gun and talk about the design elements and technical systems behind the guns!  Check them out Monday at 3:30 - more information on the SXSW site!

Wednesday, December 16, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford will be guest hosting the Kotaku podcast!  You can tune in from 1pm EST to 2pm EST to catch the show.  I'll post a direct link to the show when it's up and running, but to see their previous podcasts, you can visit this link!  The podcast will be accepting live callers with questions for Randy, and I'll provide the link to that information the day it becomes available!  Tune in to hear Randy answer community questions and discuss gaming next week - even call in with your own questions!

There's been a lot of Borderlands excitement going on recently around these parts, but no one has forgotten that Gearbox has opportunities all over the board.  Not only are we already working with some exciting titles, but we've made mention of lots of things in the past.  This week, Randy commented on the Heat title that we'd talked about previously - jump over to Shacknews for his comments!
A new feature on Kotaku regarding the development of war-themed video games has quotes from several Brothers in Arms developers.  Check it out to learn more about designing war games, from research on the ground to the increasing demands of technology.
The Gearbox Software forums will be offline briefly tomorrow around 6am CST for routine maintenance, so don't worry if you can access them for a short while.
We've posted some new jobs here at Gearbox:  we're looking for an Engine Programmer and a Physics Programmer.   Check out our jobs page for more information!
