The upcoming Borderlands action figures are now available for pre-order in the Gearbox Shop!
During our panel at PAX East, we revealed the first details of an idea we have. That idea being, what if we could add a new playable class to Borderlands 2 after we've completed the development of the game? And the name we're giving to that idea is the Mechromancer.
The Mechromancer will be an all-new playable character that we plan to develop after work on Borderlands 2 is finished and the game is in certification.
Currently, she exists as an idea and a couple of sketches, but we expect her to become a reality at some time after Borderlands 2 is completed.
As with many new ideas, we don't yet know exactly how the Mechromancer will play or when she will be available, but our estimate is that she will be released within 60 to 90 days after the launch of Borderlands 2. At that time, we also expect to release a compatibility update so that people who have the Mechromancer can play with those who don't.
As a special thank you to our early supporters, the Mechromancer will be available as a free download to members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, which you can gain access to by pre-ordering Borderlands 2 from a participating retailer. The Mechromancer will also be available as premium downloadable content for those who aren't Premiere Club members at the same time. Earlier in the year, we ran a little stat-tracking experiment with the Steam version of Borderlands that we called BTest. The idea was that, just by playing Borderlands, you'd be able to help us tune and improve our future games. In the process, we gathered lots of interesting data -- you can see some of it over at Gearbox Labs -- to help us on that quest. It was so interesting and helpful, in fact, that...
Today, we're launching an expanded version called BTest 2 with an update for the Steam version of Borderlands. Much like the original BTest, BTest2 lets you opt-in or out at any time.
This time around, we’re focusing on newly created characters so that we can get a better idea of how characters advance and progress through the game. We’ve also updated the leaderboards to reflect that, so now they only show characters made since the start of BTest2.
