2012's Biggest Games: Aliens: Colonial Marines and Borderlands 2 - Official Xbox Magazine (Print)

Few games are as insanely addictive as 2009 surprise hit Borderlands, which blended first-person combat with a deep role-playing system and enough loot to keep you digging around for months. The new game should up the ante everywhere while retaining the franchise’s tongue-in-cheek humor. In other words, more Claptrap. - Yahoo! Games

Gearbox surprised everyone with their fusion of RPG and FPS back in 2009, and are eager to exceed the original Borderlands with a new host of playable characters, a better story, crazier weapons, and even tougher foes. While not much about the improvements is currently known, what we do know is that you can play as a dwarf that can dual wield assault rifles, shotguns, and so on. That is more than enough, especially considering how great the first game was. - Examiner.com

Notable 2012 Titles: Borderlands 2 - Gamasutra

Borderlands is one of the best online co-op shooters we've ever played, and its integration of dungeon crawling mechanics—looting, for all intents and purposes—kept us coming back long after another game would have lost our interest. Borderlands 2 is set to have more of everything we loved about the first one, and with the right improvements, it could keep us coming back a second time. - Complex

Borderlands 2 will also be [one of the] must-play games in the upcoming year. - CNN

The Aliens series has seen its high and low with video games, but Colonial Marines looks like it's heading for the former end of the spectrum, thanks to Gearbox Software. - IGN

The idea of taking an expansive RPG-style loot system and using it to fill a game with piles of interesting guns was amazing. Along with the cartoonish style of the graphics and striking cover art, it helped set the game apart. The promise of more guns, vehicles, and a dynamic quest system is enough to get us excited about the sequel. - Wired

2012 Gaming Preview: Aliens: Colonial Marines and Borderlands 2 - The Globe and Mail

Borderlands 2 promises to be even bigger than the last game, and we can't wait to kill some aliens and mercenaries. - IGN

The concept of "more Borderlands" is powerful enough on its own. I don't need a better story or more varied environments, but I'm glad the sequel is including them. I don't tend to play games for the power fantasy, but Borderlands was the exception for me. I transformed from a lowly treasure hunter who would run from the smallest skags to a remorseless, unstoppable killing machine. I'm looking forward to that transformation again. - Shacknews

Still got some holiday shopping to do? The Steam Holiday Sale is here, offering savings on Borderlands, Duke Nukem Forever and other Gearbox games until January 2!

And don't forget, just by playing Borderlands on Steam, you can help us improve our future games. For more on that, click here.

Earlier in the year, we ran a little stat-tracking experiment with the Steam version of Borderlands that we called BTest. The idea was that, just by playing Borderlands, you'd be able to help us tune and improve our future games. In the process, we gathered lots of interesting data -- you can see some of it over at Gearbox Labs -- to help us on that quest. It was so interesting and helpful, in fact, that...

Today, we're launching an expanded version called BTest 2 with an update for the Steam version of Borderlands. Much like the original BTest, BTest2 lets you opt-in or out at any time.

This time around, we’re focusing on newly created characters so that we can get a better idea of how characters advance and progress through the game. We’ve also updated the leaderboards to reflect that, so now they only show characters made since the start of BTest2.
