Advice
Resources I would recommend for those interested in getting into game development (books, tutorials, sites, etc)
If you're interested in programming, read "Design Patterns" by Gamma, et al. It's probably the most important object-oriented programming book ever written. Learn multi-threading concepts and methods, since most new systems have multi-core CPUs. Check out the Wild Magic engine at http://www.geometrictools.com and be sure to browse the "Foundation Library" on the site for documentation and code. If you're just starting out, and wish to create a small game to develop your skills, try out the PopCap Framework and developer community here: http://developer.popcap.com If you're developing a larger game, the SDL library and community is an excellent resource: http://www.libsdl.org
To get a taste of console development, Microsoft's XNA platform is an excellent choice: http://creators.xna.com
Whatever you do, don't give up! :)
