Resources I would recommend for those interested in getting into game development (books, tutorials, sites, etc)
Get relevant software and go, man, go! Follow the tutorials that come with the program and learn the ins and outs of the tools used to create what you want to create. You gotta have the talent and you gotta have the tools.

E.T. for Atari. I was 2 but whenever I see a screenshot of the game I remember holding the controller and wiggling it around...
All-time favorite game
Earthbound SNES. Not the greatest game ever made, but its the one I have some of the fondest memories playing. Silent Hill 2 is a close second.
