Advice
Resources I would recommend for those interested in getting into game development (books, tutorials, sites, etc)
A brain - seriously can't stress that one enough. You'll need it almost every day. Once you've located/procured/(mis/re)appropriated/absconded with one of those, fill it with info from GamaSutra, GameDev, and GameTutorials. Those are some great resources for learning and getting started.
Favorites
First game I remember playing
Gorf on the Coleco Vision
All-time favorite game
That's akin to asking which is my favorite child... while there is a correct answer, I could never admit it. The others would get jealous and revolt.
Non-video gaming hobbies
Reading, Ice Hockey, and Motorcycles.
Favorite bands/music
Just about anything save for Country and Rap.
Favorite books/authors
Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Neverwhere, House of Leaves, The Count of Monte Cristo, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
Favorite TV shows
Futurama, ATHF, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Invader Zim, MST3K
Favorite movies
Anything by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Darren Aronofsky, the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Mel Brooks, Kevin Smith, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, John Frankenheimer, Terry Gilliam, Stanley Kubrick, and Alan Smithee. The intentionally or unintentionally hilariously cheesy/pulpy movies begging for the return of MST3K (Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, Think Big, They Live, Dude Where's my Car...)
