I AM NOT A WRITER

Gearbox-city? Gearbloxity? Gobloxity? Greasemonkety? Gearboxatrocity?

(oh, I see Mike N has already capitalized on that bit...)

Let's start over...

GEARBOXITY is probably just as close to me as it is to its birth-givers - Well, on second thought, maybe not that close... Maybe more like an "uncle" - You know, one of those friends of your mom or dad when you were growing up that wasn't actually a sibling of theirs, but someone who was always hanging around and coming over to BBQ's to eat all the ribs - Like, "Hey Gearboxity, come over here and say hi to Uncle Rick," and you were always a little hesitant to get too close to Uncle Rick because he had way too many buttons on his shirt unfastened, he'd been drinking Michelob since 10 that morning, and the 5 dollar bill he always gave you as a limp expression of guardianship smelled of cheaply-scented lotion...

I'm Gearboxity's Uncle Rick - Yes, I art directed the site's visual design.

Working with the Web Team was one of my first major undertakings as the newly hired Director of Creative Services for GBX - and believe you me, I'm so proud of the result of our collaboration, I'd hand out more than just a 5 dollar bill...

But all that aside, well beyond our periphery, I'm quite pleased to see that the site has been so well-received, and I'm also pleased that I was able to contribute to the GBX community - I hope that all of you out there soak it all up, swish it around a bit, and pour yourselves a nice big bowl of Gearboxity every day and enjoy all the essential fortified vitamins and minerals that we here will be making sure you receive with every serving - In the future, we hope to add fun-shaped marshmallows and maybe even a prize at the bottom - Or even those craptastic thin plastic 7 inch "records" that they used to adhere to the box, remember that? I had one from a box of Ghostbuster's cereal l when I was about 8 years old, and watching that square piece of flimsy polyvinyl that was once attached to my breakfast spin erratically on my parent's turntable always made me think, "wow, that sounds like $#!@."

Reflecting back to that time now makes me realize one thing... I don't think I was actually using profanity in my vocabulary until I was in junior high.

Nevertheless, my purpose here at GBX is to help make things like this very website come to life - as well as shepherd the Gearbox brand, influence and devise the marketing aesthetic for our titles (including BIA:HH, which myself and the rest of the marketing team are working on down in the lab presently), and all other visual elements beyond game dev - I'm very excited to be a part of Team GBX and to be able to work with so many talented and fascinating individuals - Coming from an advertising and design background, having nearly 10 years of experience in that industry, I've worked with a lot of people, and at several different ad agencies, but I've never been at a company that houses so many people who are all on the same page as there are here at GBX - And when I say that, I mean that everyone wants to do something great - Everyone here wants to produce the best possible product they can create, and everyone wants to contribute to that cause - It's certainly a breath of fresh air for this set of lungs.

...and so speaking of fresh air, the aroma I intend to bring to this blog-o-mine is some alternative perspective from outside the box, since I'm still something of an "outsider" - a stranger in a strange land - albeit, broadcasting from within the box - So look for a little graphic design-speak here, a little "check out this wicked website" there, and the occasional retrospective on random cultural tidbits when I feel like waxing nostalgic - All in all, I hope to add something a little different.

So to conclude, I leave you, the community, with a question to ask yourselves: "Who you gonna call?"
