Today was the first real day of the GC. We woke up early in the morning to get to the convention center, jetlagged but excited, and waited in the demo room for the first round of press to show up for the very first look at Borderlands. From many of the comments we heard and the looks on their faces, that first look left a huge impression; and I can certainly understand why. The demos went on in groups all day, and I didn't see one person come out of that room with anything less than joy and/or shock written all over their face. Maybe I don't understand German, French, Italian, or any of the myriad languages being spoken, but excitement is universal. I can't wait for everyone to learn more about the game (it may sound like nagging, but go hunt down that GI issue to quench some curiousity).
Another portion of my day was spent touring the massive floor show and taking a ton of photos before the general public is admitted tomorrow morning - there are going to be more than 100,000 people here over the course of the show! It looks like there will be plenty of entertainment for all, even if it will be packed to the brim. From Bioshock to Unreal Tournament III to the new WoW expansion (and, of course, Hell's Highway and Borderlands in private!), all the big players are represented in the public show halls. Booth babes (including one wearing nothing but a thong and body paint - try and get away with that in America!) and people in full-on game costumes were already roaming the floor and handing out various goodies - I can only imagine how loud it's going to be in there tomorrow. There's a ton of energy and excitement, especially with so many great titles coming out this season. It's the best time to be a gamer.
I got a ton of great photos of the various booths in before things got too crowded, but tomorrow I'm going to brave the floor to bring some video of the chaos back home to you all. I'll share a couple photos tonight, and when I get back there will be a huge album to peruse!
After the show, we all went out for some dinner at a place called "Auerbachs Keller " - it's the beer cellar where Faust made a deal with Mephistopheles in Goethe's classic play. I absolutely love going to places like that; how awesome to be in a place that inspired part of a great work of literature.
I'm falling asleep at my keyboard, but I promise more updates tomorrow (maybe even in the morning before I go!). I'll also take some video of the mass chaos and hopefully get Randy to say a few words about our experience here. Here are some of the floor photos from today - more on the way!
